THE ART CENTRE AT SILKEBORG BATH,
Director Iben From, 2001:

»“A compressed world of often intense colours unfolds in front of the viewer: Monica Ritterband’s miniature mosaics - Like Gulliver’s travels in Lilliput.
They are like musical compositions. The tiles’ directions and shapes add yet more dynamics to
the rhythm of the pictures. The artist’s choices of motifs reflect her interest in the small as well as the big questions in life, but always for those ideas that have meaning.«

» I think I have embedded a good slice of myself
in each and every motif – even if it is not always obvious. Even though it might sound somewhat egocentric, for me art is a reflection of oneself
– and a reflection of oneself in relation to the world. Art gives me the chance to create my own world order or chaos within the area of my own framework. I create my own paradise and sometimes also take
a trip to Hell, where I either battle against or dance with the Devil. I visit pain and interpret loneliness with colours. And I toss chaos, fire, order, hope and hopelessness into everything  – and I like to people
it all with my fantasy creatures.«
