Monica Ritterband has created a wide range of sculptures for municipalities and firms and which are placed in public squares, parks and main streets. The choice of materials consists primarily of stainless steel, iron, corten steel, tile and brick. The tallest sculpture is 8.25 metres high. All her large sculptures are produced in cooperation with a team of smiths, masons, architects and engineers.
»All of my sculptures have a story behind them – or part of a story. When I was making the series of sports sculptures, I was very concerned with forging their line of sports with their bodies.« In the sculpture »Competence«, which is a tribute to the sailor Poul Elvstrøm, he is sitting in his element. Water. The big Waterdrop. But he is also sitting on the edge of his boat and if you look closely you will see a sail, a boat, a large water drop and a cut-off wave.
