Monica Ritterband has designed a unique and special bench concept made of old wharf poles from the naval dockyard and dock area Holmen in Copenhagen and from naval oaks from the forests of Vallø Castle. She has thus transformed historic wood to modern Danish design. The bench concept is called NatureHistory and consists of three bench series, namely »Holmen«, »Frederik the 6th« and »Flow«.
The bench »Holmen« is made of Pomeranian pine from 150 wharf poles that Christian the 7th used for the quay and dock at Holmen in the 18th century. The historic wood has been submerged in water for over 200 years.

It has thus been saltwater-proofed and can last for a long time yet
The benches are produced by the sawmill Bondeskovgaard Savværk, that made a historic coup when the forester and forest owner Palle Nielsen came into possession of the wharf poles last summer. The poles are the last of the old wood left from Holmen.

The bench »Holmen« inspired Monica Ritterband and Bondeskovgaard Savværk to create an additional, unlimited bench series. The benches »Frederik the 6th« and »Flow« are also made of wood with a history, namely the 200-year-old naval forest oak trees at Vallø Castle.
